sergio tellez
Growing up on a small ranch in Mexico, Sergio developed a deep love, respect, and care for nature from a young age. His life has always been closely connected to the natural world, and he often sees how people today are missing out on the incredible gifts it offers. He believes that protecting our natural habitats and native species is essential, not just for us but for future generations.
As a dedicated community leader in Costa Mesa, Sergio has collaborated with organizations such as Trellis, Love Costa Mesa, and the Coastal Corridor Alliance to support community growth, unity, and environmental stewardship. Through these partnerships, he works to bridge people together for causes that benefit both the environment and the local community.
Spending time outdoors has countless benefits, and Sergio hopes others can experience the same joy and passion that nature brings him. When he is not working, he’s usually watching soccer or gardening with his son. He also loves hiking, camping, cooking, and exploring with his family. Learning about plants and animals is a favorite pastime of his, and he believes there’s always room to grow and improve.
dey de guzmán
Dey De Guzmán is a certified arborist, human ecologist, and tree advocate with a deep passion for the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Their childhood love of climbing trees and spending time outdoors led them to work in regenerative agriculture as a teen. There, they learned to view plants as part of a larger ecosystem—one that humans are also a part of and have a responsibility toward.
Dey later worked as a wilderness guide, where they were able to combine their love for people with their love of nature through education. It was during this time that they first gained experience climbing with ropes!
In 2020, Dey had the opportunity to apprentice in fruit tree pruning and immediately fell in love with the intimate art of caring for and shaping trees. Since then, they have become an ISA Certified Arborist, specializing in holistic tree care and pruning for increased vitality, beauty, and overall well-being. They are always seeking opportunities to learn and share their knowledge.
Outside of tree work, Dey is an avid dancer and advocate for creating inclusive dance spaces, welcoming all, regardless of experience, identity, or background.
